In a major step for sustainable transportation, Bolt has launched the Baltic states' first zero-emission hydrogen ride-sharing fleet in Tallinn, Estonia. This new fleet of 30 Toyota Mirai vehicles is now available for booking through the Bolt app, offering residents and visitors a new way to travel with a significantly reduced environmental impact. As reported by The WP Times, citing the Mobility Plaza.

This pioneering move is supported by a comprehensive green hydrogen project, which includes the establishment of production and refueling infrastructure. A key partner, the energy company Utilitas, is developing a green hydrogen production and refueling site at its Väo energy complex. This infrastructure is crucial for scaling up hydrogen adoption.

"Green hydrogen is currently the only alternative capable of replacing fossil fuels not only in transport but also in various industrial sectors," said Aivo Lokk, Head of Business Analysis at Utilitas. "The volumes remain small, and this is a pilot project, but the potential is significant."

The initiative aligns with European Union directives that require Estonia to build a nationwide alternative fuel network, including hydrogen refueling stations every 200 kilometers along major highways by 2030. Another partner, Alexela, is also playing a key role, with plans to open Estonia’s first hydrogen station accessible to the public on Peterburi Road later this year.

"By building hydrogen refueling stations, we are paving the way for a new, environmentally friendly type of fuel in Estonia," noted Artur Dianov, Head of Alternative Fuel Development at Alexela.

For Bolt, the addition of the hydrogen fleet expands its low-emission vehicle offerings. The rollout is a bold move that could pave the way for a wider shift toward cleaner fuel sources in the region's transport sector.
