The delivery platform Deliveroo has become the first service in the United Kingdom to integrate the popular Nectar loyalty programme, allowing customers to collect points when ordering groceries from the Sainsbury’s chain via the mobile app. Starting today, Nectar members can earn one point for every pound sterling (£1) spent on eligible products ordered through Deliveroo from participating Sainsbury’s stores. This move reflects Deliveroo’s wider strategy to integrate loyalty schemes and addresses the growing consumer demand for rewards and value when shopping online. The new feature allows users to easily link their Nectar and Deliveroo accounts directly at checkout. Once successfully connected, customers will be prompted to enter their Nectar card number when ordering eligible items. This ensures an identical reward accumulation experience to traditional purchases made in physical stores. Nectar is one of the UK’s largest loyalty programmes, boasting 24 million members and collaborating with over 500 partners. Accumulated points can be redeemed for goods and services across a wide network of brands, including Sainsbury’s, Argos, Esso, and British Airways.
This partnership strengthens the long-standing collaboration between Deliveroo and Sainsbury’s, which began in 2021 with fewer than 300 sites. Since then, the partnership network has expanded significantly and now covers over 1,000 stores nationwide. Suzy McClintock, Vice President of New Verticals at Deliveroo, described the integration as a “massive win” for customers. Among the most popular items ordered by UK consumers through Deliveroo from Sainsbury’s are strawberries (400g), British semi-skimmed milk (2.27L/4 pint), and Fairtrade bananas (x5), highlighting the strong demand for quick delivery of fresh, daily essentials.
