The Game Awards (TGA) ceremony has generated an unusual headline this year, marking a truly unprecedented event: for the first time in the history of the awards, a nominee has been officially removed from the list of contenders. The game Megabonk was excluded from the Best Debut Indie Game category, following the direct request of its own creator, identified as John Megabonk. The developer reached out to the organizers and candidly stated that his project could not legitimately be considered a "debut" title because he had previously developed and published games, albeit under different studio names, reported by The WP Times

The host and founder of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, confirmed the highly unusual sequence of events. Keighley stated that after receiving the submission from John Megabonk, the game Megabonk was officially pulled from the nomination roster. This act of transparency by the developer sets a unique historical precedent in the world of gaming accolades. Following the removal of Megabonk, the Best Debut Indie Game category now includes the following four titles: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Blue Prince, Despolete, and Dispatch.
