The Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (known as Prince Andrew until Thursday), is set to move from his residence in Windsor to the royal estate of Sandringham, according to sources speaking to the BBC. It is anticipated that the cost of Andrew’s continued residence will be covered directly by King Charles III’s private funds, ensuring no expense is borne by the British taxpayer. The relocation distance is approximately 225 km northeast of his current Windsor mansion, creating a physical distance from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who reside in London, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales, who live in Windsor, reports The WP Times, citing the BBC.
The formal notice to terminate the lease on the Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor, which the former Prince occupied, was filed on Thursday. Simultaneously, the King stripped Andrew of his remaining titles, honours, and the princely title he held, asking him to vacate the Windsor residence following the emergence of new details regarding his connections with the convicted paedophile financier, Jeffrey Epstein.
Royal biographer Robert Hardman informed the BBC that many observers had previously speculated that Andrew would simply move within the Windsor estate, perhaps to a smaller property like Frogmore Cottage. However, Hardman noted the severity of the situation: "But no, he is leaving that area, he is leaving Windsor, he is leaving royal Berkshire – he has effectively been exiled up the M11 to the royal equivalent of Siberia, to spend the rest of his life at Sandringham." The unprecedented nature of Andrew's transformation into "Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor" signifies a major shift for the British monarchy.
